Chapter 5: Dreamland
In my mind, I wander often to that observation point in the Mount Irish Wilderness, where I spent the night gazing across Tikaboo Valley, watching and waiting. Under the stars, with only the distant glow of Area 51 for company, it is possible to picture through half-closed eyes what it might be like to be marooned on a far-off planet.
In winter and early spring, as Guy Norris and I had discovered, the conditions could be appalling.
But in summer, at night, wrapped in a warm wind scented with the tang of sagebrush, the place was magical, with a sense that anything was possible. Which perhaps begins to explain why the many legends of Area 51 have taken root.
